• Tatsuya Okamoto wins the Beckenham Half-Marathon

    Tatsuya Okamoto, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent run to place first out of 220 finishers in the Beckenham Half-Marathon on Sunday, recording 81 minutes 48 seconds, and finishing more than a minute ahead of his nearest rival. Club colleague Peter Johnson placed tenth (92:37). Andrew Aitken also ran very well to place fourth out of 526 finishers in the Barns Green Half-Marathon (78:43).

    Matthew Stone ran very well in the Serpentine five-kilometre road race at Hyde Park on Friday. He finished first in the over-55 category, and 22nd overall out of 149 runners, in a new Striders mens age-group record of 17 minutes 45.

    On Saturday, James Bennett ran well to place first out of 31 finishers at the RunThrough 10-mile road race at Lee Valley. He completed the course in 58 minutes 45. Robert Lines was first out of 147 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (19:01), while Graeme Drysdale was first out of 151 finishers in the South Norwood parkrun (19:19), and Marc Burrows was first out of 15 finishers in the Dougnes parkrun at Cubnezais in France (19:49). Striders had a total of 82 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.

    In the Blackheath & Bromley Open Meeting at Norman Park on Wednesday, James Rhodes placed sixth in his heat of the 800 metres, recording 2 minutes 07.83 seconds.

    In the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, Striders were led by Maria Gabriel who ran well to finish in 3 hours 50 minutes 13. Michelle Carr ran 4 hours 26 minutes 10, while club chair Tony Flowers ran 5 hours 30.
