• Surrey Cross-Country League

    Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in their second Surrey Cross-Country League matches of the season, at Hurst Green on Saturday. Their men’s team did very well to place second out of ten clubs in their Division Three match. They remain in second place in the overall Division Three table. Harry Madgwick-Lawton ran well to place ninth out of the 176 finishers, completing the eight-kilometre course in 30 minutes 54. Andrew Aitken was close behind in tenth (31:12), with James Rhodes 18th (31:47) and Conor O’Hara-Barrett 31st (32:33). Matthew Stone ran well to place first in the M60 age-group and 32nd overall (32:34). Phil Coales was 33rd (32:35), Andy Perks 41st (32:52), Marc Burrows 43rd (32:59), Liam Redmond 57th (33:49) and Steve Corfield completed the scoring team in 58th (33:50).

    Striders’ B team placed first in their category. Luke Burden was 62nd (34:08), Simon Ambrosi 64th (34:11), Tom Gillespie 72nd (34:29), Peter Mills 76th (35:00), Erik Schrijnemaekers 97th (36:19), Simon Webster 98th (36:25), John O’Mahony 110th (38:15) and Jason Gallagher 111st (38:16). Robert Zietz was first in the M65 age-group and 120th overall (38:38). Mick Turner was 133rd (39:19), Darren Woods 152nd (41:16) and Rotimi Oyegunle 168th (46:03).

    Striders’ women placed 12th in their Division Two match. Jennifer Gutteridge ran very well to place 16th of the 146 finishers, completing the six-kilometre course in 26 minutes 16. Ellyw Evans was 40th (28:40), Selena Wong 80th (31:35), Fiona Carr 85th (32:02), Angela Seesurrun 103rd (34:07), Linda Jones 107th (34:40), Ruth Pearson 117th (35:56) and Maria Gabriel 120th (37:14).

    Earlier in the day, Striders had a total of 90 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. In the Istanbul Marathon, Chris Green ran a personal best 3:58:14 while Maryna Sedin ran 4:22:54.
