• Striders run well at Manchester Manchester

    Striders of Croydon had eight finishers in the Manchester Marathon on Sunday. They were led by Mark Lankester, running his second marathon within a month, who did well to finish in 3 hours 15 minutes 04 seconds. Striders’ next two finishers both ran well to record personal bests, with James Burree finishing in 3 hours 28 minutes 59 and Rotimi Oyegunle finishing in 3 hours 43 minutes 27. Simone Luciani recorded 3:49:26. Striders’ women were led by Gemma Halliday who ran well to record a personal best 4 hours 00 minutes 07. She was followed by Mark Hutchings (4:01:16), Selena Wong (4:06:20) and Jennifer Gutteridge (4:12:26).

    Earlier on the same day, Liam Redmond ran very well to place 41st out of 2667 finishers in the Bournemouth Half-Marathon, recording 84 minutes 57 seconds. Marc Burrows was 68th in 88 minutes 05, while Linda Daniel was fourteenth in the W55 category (2:04:06).

    On Saturday morning, Striders had the first two women to finish the South Norwood parkrun. Niamh Vincent placed 28th overall (22:59) while Ellyw Evans was 31st overall (24:10). Cindy Woo was the third woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 42nd overall (24:34), while Lauren Cotton-Walkington was the third woman to finish the Cirencester parkrun, placing 33rd overall (24:54). Striders had a total of 86 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.

    In the Surrey Masters Cross-Country Championships, at Nonsuch Park on Saturday afternoon, David Hoben placed 13th in the M65 age-group, completing the four-mile course in 39 minutes 18.
    Darren Woods placed 54th out of 535 finishers in the Basingstoke Half-Marathon (98:03), while Peter Johnson was 47th out of 689 finishers in the Petts Wood 10K (47:53).
