Andrew Aitken, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well in the monthly Serpentine five-kilometre road race at Hyde Park on Friday. He placed 23rd out of 182 finishers, and fifth in the M40 age-group, recording exactly 17 minutes.
Striders had the first male and female finishers at the South Norwood parkrun on Saturday. James Rhodes placed first of the 110 runners, recording 17 minutes 39 seconds. Niamh Vincent was the first woman to finish for the fifth successive week, placing 13th overall (21:46). Lee Flanagan was second in the Lloyd parkrun (19:26), while Justin Macenhill was fifth (19:43). Consuelo Kennefick was the third woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 17th overall (22:37). Lucy Finch was the fourth woman to finish the East Grinstead parkrun, placing 33rd overall (29:00). Striders had a total of 82 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the Royal Borough of Kingston 20-mile road race on Sunday, Striders were led by Michael Smaldon who placed 44th out of 148 finishers in 2 hours 34 minutes 26. Darren Woods was 57th (2:37:27), James Burree 58th (2:37:34) and Michael Joseph 93rd (2:59:52). In the Bromley Veterans five-mile cross-country race at West Wickham, Chris Morton placed 35th out of 116 finishers in 42 minutes 05.
