Southern Veterans League
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in their Southern Veterans League match at Kingsmeadow on Monday. Steve Corfield won both the M60 400 metres (61.93) and the M60 mile (5:27.34). Lorraine Hunte won the W60 100 metres, setting a new club W70 record of 17.16 seconds. Paul Cripps won the M50 high jump (1.45), and also placed third in the long jump (4.22) and fourth in the javelin (20.81). Jon Dean was second in the M50 2000 metre walk (13:09.52) and third in the M60 high jump (1.20). Andy Perks was third in the M50 mile (5:34.79). Niamh Vincent was third in the W35 400 metres (72.19), and fourth in both the 100 metres (15.65) and the mile (6:24.86). Ruth Pearson was third in the W50 triple jump (3.96) and fourth in the hammer (6.38). Striders had a total of 17 competitors. Their women placed fourth, while their men were sixth of the nine clubs in the match.
On Sunday, Striders had 14 finishers in the Ranelagh Harriers Richmond 10K, which was the fourth race in this year’s Surrey Road League. Tatsuya Okamoto ran well to place 15th overall and third in the M35 category (34:29). Phil Coales was 36th (35:51), Andrew Aitken 48th (36:16) and Andy Perks completed the scoring quartet in 90th (38:11). Steve Corfield was fourth in the M55 category and 102nd overall (38:31). He was followed by Conor O’Hara-Barrett (38:32), Erik Schrijnemaekers (38:57), Craig Smith (44:34), Davide Cappellotto (44:45) and Rotimi Oyegunle (50:29). Striders’ women were led by Selena Wong, who was the 39th woman to finish (53:43), with Jane Hughes 45th (55:40) and Linda Jones 52nd (59:22). Striders’ oldest finisher, Stuart Hills, was 32nd in the M65 category (62:43).
