Sergio wins Croydon Half Marathon
Striders of Croydon promoted the fifth annual Croydon Half-Marathon from their headquarters at Sandilands on Sunday. The winner was Sergio Gaiduc who covered the undulating course in 73 minutes 12 seconds, with Daniel Gaffney of Epsom second in 74 minutes 09. The first woman was Sophie Grant of Serpentine in 87 minutes 06, with Phyllis Flynn of Stragglers second (93.21).
Striders won both the men’s and women’s team prizes. Their men’s team were led by Bill Makuwa who placed sixth in 79 minutes 20 seconds. Krzysztof Klidzia also ran well to place eighth overall, and second in the veterans’ category, in 81 minutes 08. Justin Macenhill completed the scoring team, placing 22nd in 85 minutes 54, while Greg Williams was 39th in 89 minutes 51.
Striders’ women were led by Tamsin Carelse who was the seventh woman to finish, recording 1 hour 46 minutes 19 seconds. Debra Bourne was eighth in 1.46.42, while Carolyn Storey completed the scoring team, placing 12th in a personal best 1.48.20. Allie Cairnie was 15th (1.51.10), with Sandie Fay 21st (1.55.03), Emily Tanner 24th (1.56.05) and Jessica Thomas-Cole 26th (1.56.26).
