• Sarah debuts with win for Striders

Sarah Cobb made an excellent track debut for Striders of Croydon in the third Rosenheim League match of the season, at Tooting on Wednesday. She won the women’s shot with a putt of 6.30 metres. Club colleague Sandra Francis placed third in the long jump (2.81), and Striders’ women finished fourth in the match. Belgrave lead the division with 16 points, ahead of Serpentine (14), Hercules-Wimbledon (11), Striders (9), Croydon Harriers (7) and Herne Hill (6).

Striders’ men were unable to match their women’s success: despite good performances by veterans Daniel Hassett and Kevin Burnett, they finished sixth in the match and remain at the bottom of the table.

For the second successive week, Lee Flanagan finished second in the parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday. He covered the undulating course in 18 minutes 11. Andrew Marlow was fifth (19.56) with Ernie Hann sixth (20.02) and Gearoid Quigley eighth (20.35). Striders had a total of 39 finishers in the various local parkruns.

On Sunday (23rd) Striders will be competing in the Richmond 10-kilometre road race, which is the fourth race in this year’s Surrey Road League. Striders’ men are currently equal fourth of the 31 clubs in the league, while their women are thirteenth.
