• Sandra Francis wins two Bronze medals at British Masters Indoor Championships

    Sandra Francis, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent day in the British Masters Indoor Championships, at Lee Valley on Saturday. She won bronze medals in both the W60 long jump (with a jump of 3.39 metres) and the W60 60 metre hurdles, recording 14.40 seconds. Sandra became only the second member of Striders to finish in the top three in a British championship. She was also eighth in the W60 60 metres flat, running 10.31 seconds.

    On the same day, Tatsuya Okamoto was the first finisher at the Riddlesdown parkrun, covering the muddy five-kilometre course in 19 minutes 33 seconds. Club colleague Steph Upton was the first woman to finish, placing 13th overall (22:59). Joanne Campbell was the first woman to finish the Enniskillen parkrun, beating all but two of the men as she placed third overall (22:32). Striders had a total of 61 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (22 at Lloyd Park and 39 at other venues).

    On Sunday Stephen Harris won the Y2Y North Downs Marathon, organised by the East Surrey YMCA. He completed the undulating course from Guildford to Redhill in 4 hours 3 minutes. Dev Malhotra completed the Barcelona Marathon in 4 hours 00 minutes 08 seconds. Andy Perks was 22nd in the Steyning Stinger Marathon, recording 4 hours 08 minutes 58 seconds. In the Milton Keynes 20-mile road race, Darren Woods placed 80th in 2 hours 22 minutes 26, followed by James Burree (2:41:29), Michael Smaldon (2:42:02) and Nikki Javan (2:44:23). At the Surrey Half-Marathon in Woking, Striders were led by Allie Cairnie who ran 1 hour 42 minutes 42 seconds.

    This Saturday (17th) Striders will be competing in an end-of-season inter-club cross-country race in Lloyd Park, organised by Croydon Harriers. (This race was originally scheduled for March 3rd, but was postponed because of the snow.)
