Sam sets Striders’ club records at Knigsmeadow
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the second Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Kingsmeadow Stadium on Monday. Their women did well to finish fourth, while their men were narrowly beaten into sixth place, only four points behind local rivals Croydon Harriers.
For Striders’ women, Linda Daniel won the over-50 1500 metres (6.35.1) and was third in the over-50 400 metres (84.3). Steph Upton was third in both the over-35 400 metres (82.6) and 1500 metres (6.20.5), while Sandra Francis was third in the over-50 long jump (2.91).
For Striders’ men, Kevin Bannister won the over-60 long jump with a new club age-group record of 3.77 metres, while Daniel Hassett ran well to place second in the over-35 400 metres with a new club age-group record of 56.1 seconds. Sam O’Dongo set club over-45 records in the 100 metres (13.0) and 400 metres (60.4), while David Gunaratnam set a club over-55 long jump record of 4.05 metres.
On Saturday Krzysztof Klidzia won the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park (18.34) while Damian Macenhill won the Whitstable parkrun (18.20). Striders had a total of 28 finishers in the various local parkruns.
