• Phil Coales sets new Striders 10,000m track record at Ladywell

    Phil Coales, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent run in the Ladywell 10000 metres, organised by Kent Athletics Club. He finished third in his heat in 32 minutes 45.54 seconds, which is a new Striders club record for this distance on the track, beating the previous record set by Matt Morgan in 2010. Club colleague Peter Mills ran 34 minutes 08.55, while Darren Woods ran 40 minutes 21.09.

    James Bennett was the first man home in the South Norwood parkrun on Saturday, completing the five-kilometre course in a new course record of 16 minutes 20 seconds. Club colleague Nikki Javan was the first woman to finish, placing 30th overall in 23 minutes 59. Tatsuya Okamoto was second in the Riddlesdown parkrun (17.28) with Jay Lidbetter third (18.24). Striders had a total of 64 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (23 at Lloyd Park and 41 at other venues).

    On the following day Liam Redmond ran well to place third in the Surrey Bacchus Half-Marathon at Dorking, recording 88 minutes 45 seconds. Serena Stracey was the fifth woman to finish (and placed second in the over-40 category), recording 1 hour 44 minutes 23 seconds.
