Peter wins Pirie 10
Peter Mills, from Striders of Croydon, had an outstanding run to win the annual Pirie 10-mile cross-country race, organised by South London Harriers, at Coulsdon on Sunday. He covered the undulating course in 58 minutes 59 seconds, finishing almost three minutes ahead of the runner-up. Club colleague Krzysztof Klidzia was third overall, and first in the over-50 category, in exactly 62 minutes, while Matthew Ostrowski placed 25th (71.23).
On the previous day Striders’ women finished eighth in their Surrey Womens Cross-Country League Division Two match at Mitcham Common, lifting them to ninth place in the overall Division Two table. They were led by Steph Upton who ran well to finish 26th, covering the six-kilometre course in 26 minutes 09 seconds. Becky Laurence also ran well to place 44th (27.24), with Joanne Campbell 52nd (27.52), Charlotte Letchford 56th (28.05) and Ally Whitlock 67th (29.13). Striders’ B team were sixth in their category. Selena Wong placed 75th (29.50) with Linda Daniel 118th (32.04), Adele Boesinger 129th (32.43), Laura Hartney 182nd (37.43), Michelle Klein 186th (38.39) and Victoria Legge 194th (45.21). Striders also had a total of 46 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (22 at Lloyd Park and 24 at other venues).
