• Peter and Steph lead Striders at muddy Southern Champioships

    Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the South of England Cross-Country Championships at Parliament Hill Fields on Saturday. Their best performance came from Peter Mills, who was 72nd out of 1026 finishers in the senior men’s race, covering the very muddy nine-mile course in 55 minutes 06 seconds. Veteran Krzysztof Klidzia was 469th (66.18) with Simon Pannell 532nd (68.04), Darren Jackson 623rd (70.10), Greg Williams 624th (70.10) and Andy Perks completing the scoring team in 673rd (71.18). They placed 54th in the team event. Striders also had six non-scorers.

    Striders’ women were led by Steph Upton, who was 259th of the 501 finishers, covering the five-mile course in 41 minutes 23 seconds. Becky Laurence also ran well to place 287th (42.24) with Selena Wong 368th (45.49), Carolyn Storey 394th (47.01), Adele Boesinger 442nd (51.13), Allie Cairnie 463rd (53.54), Isabelle Kita 490th (59.04) and Victoria Legge 500th (87.53). They placed 46th in the team event. Striders also had 41 finishers in the various local parkruns (20 at Lloyd Park and 21 at other venues).
