Penultimate event in this year’s Surrey Road League
Striders of Croydon had 18 finishers in the Elmbridge 10-kilometre road race on Sunday, which was the penultimate event in this year’s Surrey Road League. They were led by Andrew Aitken who ran very well to place 35th of the 602 finishers, and tenth in the over-40 category, recording 36 minutes 14 seconds. Steve Massey was 137th (41:35) with John Summers 141st (41:47), Andrew Pickering 147th (41:49) and John O’Mahony 161st (42:31). Striders’ women were led by Jemma Zakariyyau who was the 20th woman to finish, recording 42 minutes 58. Niamh Vincent was 24th in a personal best 43 minutes 26, lifting her to 20th place in Striders’ all-time women’s rankings. Jennifer Gutteridge was 48th (47:02), Alexandra Legge 95th (52:44) and Michelle O’Mahony 113rd (53:50).
Also on Sunday, Jake Moir placed seventh in the Caterham Rotary Half-Marathon in 84 minutes 46. On the previous day, Tatsuya Okamoto placed fourth out of 181 finishers in the Elmore seven-mile road race, recording 41 minutes 29. Simon Ambrosi placed first out of 191 finishers in the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park, recording 19 minutes 10. Jon Dean was second in the Rubbenbruchsee parkrun in Germany (20:11), while Jenny Rowe was the second woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 13th overall (23:04). Striders had a total of 64 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
