Paul Cripps Striders’ leading point scorer in Southern Vets League
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their first Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Kingsmeadow Stadium. Their men did well to place fourth of the seven competing clubs, while their women were fifth.
Striders’ leading points-scorer was Paul Cripps, who won the over-50 long jump with a leap of 4.39 metres, placed second in both the 100 metres (15.0) and 1500 metres (5.34.6), and placed fourth in the discus (20.60) and hammer (14.69). Julian Spencer-Wood was third in the over-60 400 metres in a club over-65 record of 73.4 seconds, and fourth in the long jump (2.60). Sam O’Dongo was third in the over-35 long jump (3.88) and fourth in both the 100 metres (13.3) and 400 metres (59.1).
For Striders’ women, Sandra Francis won the over-60 long jump with a club age-group record of 2.99 metres, and placed fourth in the 100 metres (17.5). Linda Daniel was third in the over-50 1500 metres (6.55.3) while Becky Laurence was fourth in the over-35 race (6.12.0).
Lauren Cotton ran well to be the first woman to finish the weekly parkrun at Lloyd Park on Saturday, placing 61st overall in 23 minutes 30 seconds. Striders had an impressive total of 67 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (33 at Lloyd Park and 34 at other venues).
