• Niamh Vincent leads Striders women at Southern XC Champs

    Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the South of England Cross-Country Championships at Brighton on Saturday. In the senior women’s race, Niamh Vincent was 219th of the 351 finishers, covering the muddy eight-kilometre course in 41 minutes 49 seconds. Club colleague Hannah Luffman was 300th (48.09). In the under-13 girls’ race, Lucy Finch was 170th, covering the 3000 metre course in 13 minutes 25.

    In the senior men’s race, over 15 kilometres, Striders were led by two of their veterans, with team manager Krzysztof Klidzia placing 421st (69.10) and Matthew Stone 463rd (70.51). Steve Harris was 492nd (71.57), Andy Perks 539th (73.46), Mick Turner 587th (76.13), Joseph Ibe 660th (81.28) and James Burree 665th (81.48). They placed 68th in the team event.

    In the Canterbury 10-mile road race, Linda Daniel set a club W55 record of 87 minutes 29 seconds. Lee Flanagan was the first runner to finish the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday, covering the five-kilometre course in 19 minutes 21 seconds, while Selena Wong was the second woman to finish, placing 42nd overall (25.53). Steph Upton was the second woman to finish the Brockenhurst parkrun, placing 27th overall (22.23). Striders had a total of 59 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (21 at Lloyd Park and 38 at other venues).
