Multi-event Steve helps Striders Vets team
Striders of Croydon produced a good team performance in their first Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Kingsmeadow Stadium last week. Their women did very well to place third, while their men placed fourth out of the seven clubs which competed.
In windy conditions, Julian Spencer-Wood ran very well to win the over-60 1500 metres (5.27.5), while Krzysztof Klidzia won the over-50 5000 metres (18.07.7) with Steve Massey second in the over-40 event (19.06.9). Striders’ leading points-scorer was Steve Smith who competed in six different events, placing third in the over-50 100 metres (14.6).
For Striders’ women, Maggie Statham set a club W60 record in the 400 metres (98.3), while Lorraine Hunte improved her club W60 100 metre record (17.5). Linda Daniel was second in the W50 400 metres (86.9) and Sandra Francis was second in the W50 long jump (2.93). Rosemary Egbe was third in the W50 javelin (8.93), while both Steph Upton and Melanie Hinds gained valuable points by competing in three different track events.
Krzysztof Klidzia again ran well to finish second in the weekly parkrun at Lloyd Park on Saturday (18.22), while Rachel Lindley was the second woman in the Cambridge parkrun, recording 18 minutes 41. Striders had a total of 58 finishers in the various local parkruns (37 at Lloyd Park and 21 at other venues).
