Morena and Simone fly the flag for Striders in Milan
Striders of Croydon produced a good team performance to place third in the East Surrey League’s annual road race, held at Ewell on Thursday evening. Epsom won with Hercules-Wimbledon second. Striders were led by Ernie Hann who ran very well to finish fourth, covering the four and a quarter mile course in 25 minutes 10 seconds. Club colleague Krzysztof Klidzia also ran well to win the over-40 category, placing ninth overall (25.34). Andy Perks was 22nd (27.42), Darren Woods 26th (28.14), Paul Stanford 34th (29.14) and team manager Mick Turner 36th (29.36). For Striders’ women, Steph Upton placed 43rd in 31 minutes 43.
Morena Lironi returned to her native Italy and had an excellent run in the Stamilano Half-Marathon, setting a new club over-40 women’s record of 91 minutes 49 seconds. In a high-quality field, she was the 37th woman to finish, and placed fifth in the over-40 category. Club colleague Simone Luciani also ran well to place 85th, recording 76 minutes 19 seconds and lifting him to eleventh place in Striders’ all-time club rankings. Meanwhile Krzysztof Klidzia ran a personal best of 35 minutes 41 seconds in the Exeter 10-kilometre road race, finishing eleventh. Graeme Drysdale won the Riddlesdown parkrun on Easter Saturday, covering the five-kilometre course in 19 minutes 17 seconds. Striders had an impressive total of 61 finishers in the various local parkruns.
In the Herne Hill Open Meeting at Tooting on Saturday, Kevin Burnett set club over-75 records of 16.73 metres for the discus and exactly six metres for the shot putt.
