• Lorraine Hunte wins bronze in the British Masters Championships

    Lorraine Hunte had an excellent run to win the bronze medal in the W65 100 metres in the British Masters Championships in Derby on Saturday. She finished in 17.17 seconds, and became only the third member of Striders to place in the first three in a track event at a British championship.

    Club colleague Steve Corfield only just missed out on a medal in the M60 800 metres. He finished strongly to take fourth place in a club men’s age-group record of 2 minutes 19.73, just one-hundredth of a second behind the bronze medallist.

    In the Tracksmith Twilight 5000 metres at Battersea Park on Wednesday, Striders’ fastest time came from Tatsuya Okamoto who placed twelfth in his heat in 16 minutes 28.78. Club colleague Andrew Aitken ran 16:48.07, while Stephen Allport ran 20:11.40.

    On Saturday morning, Jay Lidbetter was first out of 215 finishers at the Riddlesdown parkrun (17:18). Ellyw Evans was the first woman to finish the Kingston parkrun, placing 37th overall (21:30). Niamh Vincent was the first woman to finish the Ardgillan parkrun in Ireland, placing tenth overall (22:13). Simon Ambrosi was second in the South Norwood parkrun (19:38). Nikki Javan was the second woman to finish the Ferry Meadows parkrun in Peterborough, placing 67th overall (23:01). Martin Filer was third in the Lloyd parkrun (19:00). Consuelo Kennefick was the third woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 34th overall (23:02). Striders had a total of 123 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.

    Also on Saturday, John O’Mahony completed the Kerry Way Ultra Lite 58-kilometre race in 9 hours 09 minutes 34. Maryna Sedin completed the Medoc Marathon in 4:21:56, while Chris Green ran 4:54:17.
