Linda and Colin claim Striders’ club records at Ewell
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the third Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Ewell on Monday. Their women finished fourth, while their men were fifth of the seven clubs in the match.
Striders’ women were led by Linda Daniel, who ran well to finish second in the over-50 800 metres in a club age-group record of 3 minutes 05.2 seconds. She later also placed second in the over-50 3000 metres (13.34.2), and ran the fastest leg for Striders’ 4 x 400m relay team, who placed third. The other team members were Steph Upton, Sandra Francis and Andrea Jeffries.
The best performance from Striders’ men came from Colin Cotton, who placed second in the over-60 3000 metres in a club over-65 record of 12 minutes 53.5. Paul Cripps, despite nursing an injury, was third in the over-35 triple jump (8.92) and fourth in the shot put (7.03).
Damian Macenhill placed fifth in the Crystal Palace parkrun on Saturday (19.24), while Chris Morton was fifth in the parkrun in Lloyd Park (20.00). Striders had a total of 40 finishers in the various local parkruns.
