• Lee leads Striders at Brighton Marathon

    Lee Flanagan, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to finish 33rd out of more than 9000 runners in the Brighton Marathon on Sunday, recording a personal best 2 hours 54 minutes 02 seconds and lifting him to 14th place in Striders’ all-time club rankings. Club colleague Darren Bird, running his second marathon in consecutive weeks, did well to record 3 hours 00 minutes 27 seconds. There were also good runs from Matthew Chapman (3.07.30), Mike Stewart (3.20.25) and club secretary Chris Morton (3.21.35). Striders’ first woman to finish was Sandie Fay, who ran very well to record a personal best 3 hours 55 minutes 12 seconds. Another notable performance came from club chairman Robin Jamieson, who set a new club over-65 record of 4 hours 17 minutes 00 seconds, breaking the previous record by more than ten minutes. Striders had a total of 14 finishers in this popular event.
    On the previous day, Krzysztof Klidzia won the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park, covering the undulating five-kilometre course in 18 minutes 39 seconds, while Steve Winter won the Roundshaw Downs parkrun (18.24). Striders had a total of 38 finishers in the various local parkruns. Meanwhile Ernie Hann ran well to place second out of 71 finishers in the Selsdon Half-Marathon, recording 90 minutes 04 seconds.
    On Sunday (21st) Striders have 16 entrants in the London Marathon, and will be marshalling at their usual location at Hungerford Bridge.
