Peter Mills, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to finish first out of 215 runners in the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday. In hot conditions, he covered the undulating course in 17 minutes 09 seconds. Club colleague Sophia Sachedina was the fourth woman to finish, placing 51st overall (24:17). Tatsuya Okamoto was third in the Riddlesdown parkrun (17:19) with Alastair Falconer fourth (17:46). Striders had a total of 69 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (21 at Lloyd Park and 48 at other venues).
Krzysztof Klidzia ran well to finish seventh overall, and first in the over-50 category, in the Isle of Mull Half-Marathon, recording 81 minutes 44 seconds.
This Sunday (12th), Striders will be competing in the Wimbledon five-kilometre road race, which is the final event in this year’s Surrey Road League. Striders’ women are currently eighth of the 35 clubs in the league, while their men are tenth. Individually, Susanna Lutman is currently second in the women’s over-35 category with Selena Wong third. Niamh Vincent is seventh in the women’s under-35 category with Adele Boesinger eighth and Lucy Kulp ninth.
