James helps Striders to second place in major 10K race
Striders of Croydon produced an excellent team performance in Sunday’s Elmbridge 10-kilometre race, which was the penultimate race in this year’s Surrey Road League. Their men did very well to place second in the team event. James Bennett led the way, placing tenth of the 501 finishers in a personal best 33 minutes 36 seconds, lifting him to fifth place in the club’s all-time rankings. Simone Luciani also ran well to place 15th (34.16) with Iain Harrison 19th (35.10). Michael Stewart was 49th (37.27) and Justin Macenhill 75th (38.33). Striders’ women were led by Morena Lironi who placed 183rd overall in 43 minutes 41. She was followed by Becky Laurence (228th, 46.02), Karen Peake (347th, 52.08) and Rachel Tanner (373rd, 53.30). Striders had a total of 23 finishers in the race.
In the British Masters Championships in Birmingham, Alan Dolton placed ninth in the M55 1500 metres (5.36.23).
