Iain leads Striders at tough Epsom Downs race

Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their second Surrey Cross-Country League Division Two match of the season, at Epsom Downs on Saturday. Their best performance came from Iain Harrison who ran well to place 29th of the 135 finishers, covering the undulating five-mile course in 31 minutes 46 seconds. Veteran Krzysztof Klidzia also ran well to finish 42nd (32.32), with Steve Winter close behind in 43rd (32.37) and Darren Bird 45th (32.46). Ernie Hann, making his league debut, was next home in 62nd (33.38) and was followed by Simon Ambrosi (63rd, 33.39); Lee Wadsworth (64th, 33.45); Steve Starvis (69th, 34.00); Matt Chapman (70th, 34.04) and Taylor Huggins (79th, 34.43). Striders also had six non-scorers.
This result meant that Striders have slipped to fifth place in the overall Division Two table. Walton lead the division with 527 points, ahead of Clapham (660), Kingston (759), Epsom (857), Striders (973), Tadworth (1032), Guildford (1046), Dorking (1049) and Wimbledon (1287).
