• East Surrey Cross Country League

    Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in the East Surrey League five-mile cross-country race at Lloyd Park on Saturday. They were led by Phil Coales who ran well to finish fifth (33:06). Tatsuya Okamoto was sixth (33:25), Andy Perks tenth (35:03) and Rob Lines completed the scoring team in 12th (35:24). For the B team, Tom Gillespie was 15th (36:11), Tim Lawlor 22nd (37:59), Steve Harris 23rd (38:08) and Kerim Suruliz 27th (39:14).

    Striders’ women were led by Ellyw Evans who was the seventh woman to finish (42:35). Cindy Siu was the ninth woman to finish (43:15), with Debra Bourne 15th (45:41) and Selena Wong completing the scoring team in 17th (46:17). For the B team, Nadine Pryce was 21st (51:20), Ruth Pearson 23rd (51:51), Gemma Halliday 25th (55:27) and Sara Fidanci 27th (59:37).

    Striders also had seven non-scorers. Jon Dean was 37th (41:07), Robert Zietz 39th (41:14), Jason Gallagher 43rd (42:35), Stephen Siu 48th (43:28), Rob McDonald 58th (45:38), Mark Harman 60th (45:41) and Nick Beall 69th (48:20). In the young athletes’ race, Thomas Finch placed 47th overall.

    In the Paddock Wood Half-Marathon on Sunday, Andrew Aitken ran well to set a Striders M45 record of 75 minutes 36. He was followed by Tatsuya Okamoto (76:44), Martin Filer (80:44), Conor O’Hara-Barrett (81:05), Niamh Vincent (94:18) and Tom Vincent (94:25). In the Tokyo Marathon, Erik Schrijnemaekers ran 3:16.16. In the Rhayader 30K, Anna O’Sullivan and Keith Murkin both ran 2:53:31. In the Rhayader 10K, Wendy Crome ran 85:16, followed by Sally Bartlett (86:02) and Donna Murkin (86:03).

    In the RunThrough Chase the Moon 5K at Battersea on Wednesday, Max Veglio placed 29th (19:01), while Steve Massey was first in the M55 age-group and 44th overall (20:21).
