Dorking 10 miles
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in the Dorking 10-mile road race on Sunday, which incorporated the Surrey Championships. They were led by Tatsuya Okamoto who ran well to finish 26th (59:13). Andrew Aitken was close behind in 27th (59:28) and Martin Filer was 30th (60:22). Steve Corfield completed the scoring team, placing second in the M60 age-group and 80th overall in a new club age-group record of 65 minutes 08.
Striders’ women were led by Cindy Siu who was the 76th woman to finish (85:09). Maria Gabriel ran well to be the 79th woman to finish in a new club W55 record of 85 minutes 34.
Striders also had five non-scorers. Tom Gillespie placed 88th (65:52) and was followed by Erik Schrijnemaekers (67:42), Darren Woods (75:45), Steve Harris (77:19) and David Gunaratnam (94:14).
Kara Boaks ran well to be the seventh woman to finish the South Downs Way 50-kilometre race from Falmer to Eastbourne, recording 5 hours 16 minutes 07.
On Saturday morning, Martin Filer was first out of 183 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (18:38). Rachel Lindley was the first woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing eighth overall out of 245 finishers (19:48). Kara Boaks was the first woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun, placing 14th overall out of 171 finishers (21:55). Striders had a total of 112 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the RunThrough five-kilometre road race at Battersea on Wednesday, Max Veglio placed 33rd in a personal best of 18 minutes 42. Steve Massey was first in the M55 age-group and 40th overall (19:01), while Darren Woods was 68th (21:24). In the Hercules-Wimbledon 1500m Festival Night at Wimbledon Park, James Rhodes placed 13th in his heat (4:24.38).
