Bill leads Striders to 4th place at Ham Lands
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the second Surrey Cross-Country League Division Two match of the season, at Ham on Saturday. They did well to place fourth of the nine clubs in the match, only seven points behind third-placed Wimbledon, and remain third in the overall Division Two table.
Striders were led by Bill Makuwa who had an excellent run to place eleventh out of the 193 finishers, covering the five-mile course in 30 minutes 55 seconds. Simone Luciani also ran very well to place 15th in 31 minutes 09. Matt Morgan continued his return to form in 26th (31.50) with Lee Flanagan 39th (32.32), Matt Smith 40th (32.34) and Krzysztof Klidzia 49th (32.50). Justin Macenhill was 69th (33.45) with Simon Ambrosi 80th (34.17), Ernie Hann 87th (34.32) and Simon Pannell completing the scoring team in 88th (34.33). Striders also had ten non-scorers.
On the following day Krzysztof Klidzia, in his second race of the weekend, ran the Beckenham 10K trail race (38.26). Becky Laurence was the fifth woman to finish (47.37). Meanwhile Mike Stewart ran a personal best of 3 hours 8 minutes 9 seconds in the Auckland Marathon.
