Surrey Masters Cross-Country Championships
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in the Surrey Masters Cross-Country Championships, at Nonsuch Park on Saturday. Their best placing came from Steve Corfield who ran well to place second in the M60 race, completing the 9300 metre course in 36 minutes 22. Club colleague Mick Turner was 14th (45:22). Tatsuya Okamoto was fifth in the M40 race (34:05), while Graeme Drysdale was ninth in the M55 race (40:58) and Andy Perks was tenth in the M50 race (39:31).
In the M65 race, over 6200 metres, Robert Zietz was fifth (28:11) with Jon Dean sixth (28:12). Striders’ oldest competitor, David Hoben, was eighth in the M70 race (43:37). In the W45 race, Selena Wong was 12th (32:19) with Linda Jones 14th (35:36) and Natalie Ballarin 15th (35:55).
Earlier in the day, Striders had a total of 103 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Rachel Lindley was the first woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing fifth overall out of 210 finishers (21:10). Peter Johnson was first out of 45 finishers in the Zegerplas parkrun at Alphen aan den Rijn in south Holland (19:49). James Rhodes was second out of 666 finishers in the Bromley parkrun (16:43). Andrew Aitken was third out of 367 finishers in the Whitstable parkrun (17:50), while Erik Schrijnemaekers was third out of 208 finishers in the Harrow Lodge parkrun (19:53). Ellyw Evans was the third woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun, placing 39th overall (23:26). There were fourth places for Phil Coales in the Brockwell parkrun (17:37) and Stephen Kennefick in the Roundshaw parkrun (20:38).
Lee Roberts placed 55th in the RunThrough Crystal Palace 10K on Sunday (50:02). Steve Starvis placed 66th in the Serpentine 5K road race at Hyde Park on Friday (19:30).
