Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in the Ranelagh Half-Marathon at
Richmond on Sunday, which incorporated the Surrey Championships and was the fourth
race in this year’s Surrey Road League. They were led by Marc Burrows, who placed 54th
out of 388 finishers (1:22:34). He was followed by Erik Schrijnemaekers, who placed 70th
(1:25:51).
Striders’ next two finishers both won Surrey Championship medals in the M55 age-group.
Tom Gillespie won the silver medal, placing 76th overall (1:26:48), while Steve Corfield won
the bronze medal, placing 79th overall (1:27:23). Peter Johnson placed 131st (1:32:49) with
Tim Lawlor 136th (1:33:08), Martin Filer 151st (1:34:24) and Mark Nortje 244th (1:46:04).
In the Belfast Classic track meeting on Saturday, James Rhodes placed fifth in his heat of
the 800 metres (2:11.70).
In the RunThrough Gatwick Half-Marathon, Paul Thomas ran well to place 17th out of 1668
finishers (1:21:15). Darren Woods placed 208th (1:37:27), Craig Smith 224th (1:38:08) and
Matthew Bollington 426th (1:45:27). Grace Champion was the 149th woman to finish,
placing 816th overall (1:58:07), while Simon Little placed 1025th (2:05:34). In the Hampton
Court Palace 10K, Mark Stanford placed 550th out of 1492 finishers (56:50).
On Saturday morning, Chris Porter placed first out of 191 finishers in the Roundshaw
parkrun (18:02). Striders had a total of 124 finishers in the various weekly parkruns,
including 30 at South Norwood, which was celebrating its 400th parkrun.
On Tuesday evening, Steve Corfield placed 15th out of 68 finishers, and third in the M60
age-group, in the Veterans AC five-mile championship at Battersea Park.
On Bank Holiday Monday, Nikki Javan completed the Milton Keynes Marathon in 3:51:22,
placing 16th in the W45 age-group. In the Bannister Community Mile at Oxford, Sarah Allport
ran 9:29.4.
