Surrey Cross-Country Championships
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition and difficult conditions in the Surrey Cross-Country Championships at Lloyd Park on Saturday. Their senior women did well to finish ninth in the team event. They were led by Consuelo Kennefick who ran well to place second in the W50 age-group and 53rd overall, completing the muddy eight-kilometre course in 37 minutes 27. Jennifer Gutteridge was 58th (38:11) with Cindy Siu 76th (41:05) and Nikki Javan completing the scoring quartet in 84th (41:50). Michelle Vezie-Taylor was 114th (50:47), Yasmin Anderson 115th (50:55) and Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela 123rd (54:18).
Striders’ senior men finished 12th. They were led by Lee Flanagan who placed 62nd, completing the 12-kilometre course in 48 minutes 13. Tatsuya Okamoto was 72nd (49:36), Martin Filer 79th (50:11), Joseph Ibe 95th (51:51), Luke Burden 104th (52:37) and Kerim Suruliz completed the scoring team in 111th (53:23). Tom Gillespie was 120th (54:03), Andy Perks 126th (54:41), John O’Mahony 156th (58:31), Simon Webster 168th (62:15) and James Harrison 182nd (76:53).
Daniel Finch was 50th in the under-15 boys’ race, completing the four-kilometre course in 16 minutes 58. His brother Thomas Finch was 53rd in the under-13 boys’ race, completing the three-kilometre course in 13 minutes 15.
Earlier in the day, Striders had 87 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Matthew Stone was first out of 227 finishers in the Lloyd parkrun (20:48). Erik Schrijnemaekers was third in the Tapijn parkrun in Maastricht (18:22). Justin Macenhill was third in the Riddlesdown parkrun (22:04). Linda Daniel was the third woman to finish the Lymington parkrun, placing 22nd overall (27:55).
In the Tadworth 10-mile race on Sunday, Peter Laurence placed 83rd out of 518 finishers (78:10) with Steve Massey 102nd (79:36) and Robert Zietz 127th (82:00).
