Southern Veterans League
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in their Southern Veterans League match at Sutton on Monday. Their women placed fourth, while their men were seventh of the nine clubs in the match.
Lorraine Hunte won the W60 200 metres, setting a new club W70 record of 37.0. Niamh Vincent set club W40 records in the 200 metres (32.3) and 800 metres (2:46.7), placing third in both races. She was also third in the W35 5000 metres (21:13.5). Ruth Pearson was second in the W50 triple jump (4.01) and fourth in the W50 javelin (8.31). Natalie Ballarin was third in the W35 triple jump (4.36) and fourth in the W35 shot (5.46) and javelin (11.10). Vanessa Wheeler was fourth in the W50 shot (4.16). Sandra Francis was fifth in the W60 javelin (6.16). Nikki Javan, Jay Brzask and Sarah Allport gained valuable points in B string races.
For Striders’ men, Steve Corfield won both the M60 800 metres (2:20.8) and the M60 5000 metres (18:23.4). Andy Perks was third in the M50 5000 metres (18:36.8). Peter Johnson was fifth in the M60 200 metres (33.4). In the 800 metres, both Tim Lawlor (2:34.1) and Steve Massey (2:35.9) ran well against strong opposition.
In the Elmore 7-mile road race on Saturday, Tatsuya Okamoto ran well to place ninth of the 217 finishers (39:32). Conor O’Hara-Barrett was 39th (43:06), Erik Schrijnemaekers 44th (43:58), Simon Ambrosi 53rd (44:52), Andy Perks 59th (45:23), Jason Gallagher 69th (46:16), Tim Lawlor 83rd (47:49), Craig Smith 104th (50:26) and Mick Turner 135th (54:17). Cindy Siu was the 38th female finisher, placing 153rd overall (57:28).
Rachel Lindley finished fifth in the Dales High Way 90-mile race from Saltaire in Yorkshire to Appleby in Cumbria, recording 27 hours 37 minutes.
