• Striders’ Phil wins Beckenham 10K race

    Phil Coales, from Striders of Croydon, had a very good run to win the Beckenham Running Club 10-kilometre road race last week, covering the muddy course in 37 minutes 06 seconds. Club colleague Krzysztof Klidzia placed fourth in 38 minutes 34. Striders’ women were led by Selena Wong who placed 87th overall in 53 minutes 21.

    Phil Coales also led Striders in the London Cross-Country Championships on Saturday. He placed 83rd of the 353 finishers, covering the muddy course in 38 minutes 22 seconds. Barry White was 190th (42.48), Simon Pannell 203rd (43.31) and Simon Webster 229th (44.43). They placed 17th in the team event.

    In the Epsom 10-mile road race on Sunday, Steph Upton was the tenth woman to finish, placing 85th overall in 76 minutes 24. Striders’ men were led by Sam O’Dongo who placed 58th (72.04), while Peter Laurence was 70th (73.57). Martin Filer was 137th in the Brighton 10 kilometre road race (39.22).

    Striders had 46 finishers in the weekly parkruns on Saturday morning, with their best placing coming from Lee Flanagan who was third at Lloyd Park (19.05).
