• Martin Filer first Strider at Sutton 10k

    Striders of Croydon had an impressive total of 23 finishers in the Sutton 10-kilometre road race on Sunday, which was the second event in this year’s Surrey Road League. They were led by Martin Filer who placed 43rd of the 455 finishers in a personal best 38 minutes 08 seconds. Graeme Drysdale was 68th overall, and ninth in the over-50 category (39:10), while Andy Perks was 72nd (39:36) and John Summers was 100th (41:26). Striders’ women were led by Jemma Zakariyyau who was the eleventh woman to finish, recording 41 minutes 42, which places her ninth in Striders’ all-time women’s rankings. Jenny Rowe was the 23rd woman to finish (44:21), while Alexandra Legge was 76th (53:09), Linda Daniel 89th (54:47) and Jo Riches 91st (54:52).

    On the previous day, Rachel Lindley was the fifth woman to finish the North Downs Way 50-mile race from Farnham to Knockholt, recording 8 hours 39 minutes 48 seconds. Club colleague Debra Bourne was the 12th woman to finish and was first in the over-50 category (9:42:21). Meanwhile Steve Starvis was first out of 144 finishers at the South Norwood parkrun (19:03), while Jenny Rowe was the first woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun (21:47). Striders had a total of 80 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
