• Cross Country, road races & parkruns!

    Two members of Striders of Croydon ran well in the South of the Thames Cross-Country Association’s annual five-mile race at Aldershot. Tatsuya Okamoto placed 41st out of 84 finishers in the men’s race, recording 31 minutes 47 seconds. Club colleague Matthew Stone finished second in the over-55 age-group and 47th overall (32:44).

    Andrew Aitken ran very well to place 13th out of 355 finishers in the Ranelagh Harriers 10-kilometre road race at Richmond on Sunday. He completed the course in 35 minutes 06 seconds. In the Benidorm 10-kilometre road race the previous evening, Striders were led by Steve Massey who placed 145th in a large field, recording 40 minutes 59. Club colleague Damian Macenhill finished just two places and five seconds behind him, while Stuart Hills was 16th in the over-65 age-group (58:44).

    In the monthly Serpentine Running Club five-kilometre road race, at Hyde Park on Friday, Matthew Stone again ran well to place second in the over-55 age-group, and 31st out of 161 finishers, in 18 minutes 20.

    On Saturday morning Liam Redmond ran well to place second out of 103 finishers in the South Norwood parkrun, completing the five-kilometre course in 19 minutes 30. Club colleague Robert Lines was fourth (19:50). Niamh Vincent was the second woman to finish, placing 26th overall (22:50), while Ellyw Evans was the fourth woman to finish, placing 37th overall (24:00). Martin Filer placed second out of 88 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (20:25). Cindy Woo was the fifth woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 53rd overall (25:48). Striders’ fastest time was recorded by Phil Coales who was eighth in the Mile End parkrun (18:36). Striders had a total of 71 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
