Brighton Marathon
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the East Surrey League road race at Ewell on Thursday. They were led by Tatsuya Okamoto who ran well to place tenth out of the 73 finishers, completing the 4.2 mile course in 25 minutes 30. Steve Massey was 30th (29:33), Peter Johnson 34th (30:20), Andy Perks 35th (30:36), Mick Turner 53rd (33:45) and Angela Seesurrun 65th (37:31). In the young athletes’ race, Daniel Finch was 26th (14:42), Thomas Finch 42nd (15:46), Isaac Thomas 59th (17:32) and Clara Thomas 65th (19:39).
In the Brighton Marathon on Sunday, Graeme Drysdale ran well to finish 194th in a very large field, recording 2 hours 59 minutes 07. He was followed by Marc Burrows (3:28:23), Matthew Byrne (4:19:05), James Harrison (4:56:35), Keith Simpson (5:00:42) and Dipak Katwa (5:28:32).
Steve Corfield ran well to place first in the M60 age-group, and 38th overall, in the Serpentine five-kilometre road race at Hyde Park on Friday (18:25). In the RunThrough five-kilometre road race at Battersea on Saturday, Maria Gabriel placed first in the W55 age-group, and 47th overall, in a personal best of 22 minutes 42.
Also on Saturday, in the South London Athletics Network Open Meeting at Sutton Arena, James Rhodes placed fifth in the A 400 metres, recording 59.05 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Striders had 83 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. There were second places for Tatsuya Okamoto in the Roundshaw parkrun (18:21), Lee Flanagan in the South Norwood parkrun (19:19) and Martin Filer in the Riddlesdown parkrun (19:38). Consuelo Kennefick was the third woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 18th overall (25:49). There were fourth places for Matthew Stone in the Riddlesdown parkrun (20:43) and Andy Perks in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (21:25).
