Eight athletes from Striders of Croydon won medals in the Surrey Masters Championships, held in very warm conditions at Kingsmeadow on Saturday. Sandra Francis won gold in both the W65 100 metres (18.86) and the long jump (2.68). Natalie Ballarin won gold in the W50 1500 metres (7:14.34) and silver in both the shot (6.69) and the discus (15.70). There were also gold medals for Consuelo Kennefick in the W50 5000 metres (20:50.54), Vanessa Wheeler in the W60 800 metres (3:40.52), Lorraine Hunte in the W70 100 metres (18.05) and Alan Dolton in the M65 800 metres (4:18.36). There were silver medals for Sarah Allport in the W50 1500 metres (9:04.85) and Stephen Kennefick in the M50 5000 metres (20:50.71).
In the South London Harriers 10K, at Coulsdon on Thursday, Tom Gillespie placed tenth out of 102 finishers (42:28). Kerim Suruliz was 19th (44:59), Stephen Harris 31st (46:56), Damian Macenhill 37th (48:47), Matthew Tremlett 53rd (52:08) and Mick Turner 86th (68:08).
On Saturday, Striders had a total of 122 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Cindy Siu was the first woman to finish the Karpendonkse Plas parkrun in Eindhoven, placing 28th overall out of 124 finishers (24:46). Marc Burrows placed second out of 269 finishers in the Walthamstow parkrun (18:43). Rachel Lindley was the second woman to finish the Clumber Park parkrun near Worksop, placing 12th overall out of 385 finishers (20:18). Anna Docile was the second woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 43rd overall out of 274 finishers (24:50). Nathan Robertshaw placed third out of 162 finishers in the Abermaw Promenad parkrun in Barmouth (18:59).
In the Serpentine 5K at Hyde Park on Friday, Ally Whitlock was third in the W45 age-group, placing 69th overall out of 187 finishers (20:24).
