• Penultimate Southern Veterans League match

    Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their penultimate Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Ewell on Monday. Steve Corfield ran very well to win the M50 800 metres (2:23.6). He also placed second in the M50 200 metres in a new club M55 record of 28.6. Peter Johnson was second in the M60 3000 metres (11:48.1). Jon Dean was third in the M60 high jump (1.25), fourth in the M60 javelin (19.09) and long jump (2.97), and fifth in the M60 200 metres (35.2).

    For Striders’ women, Sheena Hammond placed fourth in both the W60 200 metres (42.2) and the W60 800 metres (3:37.3). Sarah Allport was fifth in the W50 800 metres (4:40.8), while Theresa Staunton was sixth in the W50 200 metres (47.5). Both Striders’ men and women placed eighth of the nine clubs in the match.

    On Wednesday, Striders had seven teams in the Dino Dash Relays at Crystal Palace. Their women’s A team of Ellyw Evans (14:36), Alex Legge (17:01) and Kara Boaks (14:31) placed fourth out of 21 women’s teams. Their men’s A team of Erik Schrijnemaekers (13:29), Jason Gallagher (13:51) and Marc Burrows (12:22) placed sixth out of 28 men’s teams. Also on Wednesday, Darren Woods placed 50th in the Reigate 10K (45:19). 

    On Saturday, Tatsuya Okamoto was first in the Momoi Harappa parkrun in Japan (17:23). Striders had the first two female finishers at the South Norwood parkrun, with Martha Taylor placing 14th overall (21:05) and Niamh Vincent placing 17th (21:24). Rachel Lindley was the second female finisher in the Abingdon parkrun, placing eleventh overall (20:05). Cindy Siu was the second female finisher in the Lloyd parkrun, placing 57th overall (24:34). Striders totalled 116 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
