• Robin sets over-70 10 Mile record

    Three of the oldest members of Striders of Croydon won medals in the Surrey Masters Championships, at Ewell on Sunday. 77-year-old Kevin Burnett won the M75 3000 metre walk in a club age-group record of 24 minutes 24.2, and placed second in the shot (4.97), discus (15.37) and hammer (14.69). Sandra Francis won the W60 long jump with a club age-group record of 3 metres 13, placed second in the 200 metres in a club age-group record of 37.43 seconds, and also placed second in the 100 metres (17.74). Alan Dolton placed second in the M60 1500 metres (5.38.07) and 800 metres (2.58.18).
     
    On the same day, Striders had an impressive turnout of 20 finishers in the Dorking 10-mile road race, which incorporated the Surrey Championships. Michael Stewart led them home in 58th place (63.25) and five other Striders finished in the top 100. Simon Ambrosi was 61st (63.40), Graeme Drysdale 84th (66.15), Steve Massey 96th (67.38), Andy Perks 97th (67.40) and Tom Gillespie 98th (67.45). Striders’ women were led by Carolyn Storey, who ran a personal best of 76 minutes 20. She was followed by Selena Wong (85.46), Yasmin Anderson (88.43) and Adele Boesinger (89.13). Striders’ club chairman Robin Jamieson set a club over-70 record of 96 minutes 09. On the previous day, Simone Luciani was the first man home at the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park (17.56). Striders had an impressive total of 57 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (27 at Lloyd Park and 30 at other venues).
