Pennine Barrier 50-mile race
Gemma Halliday, from Striders of Croydon, ran well to be the 55th woman to finish the GB Ultras Pennine Barrier 50-mile race on Saturday, starting and finishing at Malham in North Yorkshire. She placed 377th overall out of 533 finishers, recording 14 hours 19 minutes 32.
Earlier in the day, Striders had an impressive total of 121 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. In the Lloyd parkrun, Steve Corfield ran well to place third out of 266 finishers (19:41), achieving an age-grading of 83.66%. Zoe Siu was the third female finisher, placing 35th overall (24:10), while her mother Cindy Siu was the fourth female finisher, placing 45th overall (25:05), and Debra Bourne was the fifth female finisher, placing 60th overall (26:09). Nathan Robertshaw was third out of 162 finishers in the Roundshaw parkrun (18:21), while Matthew Stone was third out of 111 finishers in the Tewkesbury parkrun (19:43). Consuelo Kennefick was the third woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 35th overall (23:36). Marc Burrows was fourth out of 158 finishers at the Pymmes parkrun in Edmonton (18:25), while Daniel Finch was fourth out of 155 finishers in the Malling Rec parkrun (20:08). Becky Laurence was the fourth woman to finish the Canons Park parkrun in Edgware, placing 38th overall out of 328 finishers (23:09). Striders’ fastest time of the day came from Phil Coales who was fifth out of 462 finishers in the Mile End parkrun (18:06).
On Sunday, Zoe Siu was the first female finisher in the Lloyd junior parkrun, placing third overall out of 138 finishers (8:25). Selena Wong completed the Birmingham Half-Marathon in 1:55:51.
Daniel Shew completed the Madrid Marathon, on an undulating course finishing 647 metres above sea level, in 4:57:45.
