• East Surrey League cross-country

    Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in the East Surrey League cross-country races at Lloyd Park on Saturday. Their men did well to place second in the team event. Phil Coales was sixth, Tom Gillespie ninth, Robert Lines tenth, Krzysztof Klidzia eleventh, Martin Filer 16th, Bill Beattie 21st, Tim Lawlor 30th, Stephen Siu 39th and Jon Dean 41st. Fiona Carr was the ninth woman to finish, placing 45th overall. Earlier in the afternoon, Caleb Macenhill ran well to place third in the under-11 race, while Thomas Finch was 37th in the under-17 race.

    In the RunThrough Chase the Moon 10K, at Battersea Park on Wednesday, Niamh Vincent was the sixth woman to finish, placing first in the W40 age-group and 72nd overall in a personal best of 41:02, which lifts her to ninth place in Striders’ all-time women’s rankings. Lottie Nusca was the eighth woman to finish, placing 90th overall (42:44). For Striders’ men, Marc Burrows placed 26th out of 435 finishers (37:48), while Matthew Tremlett was 143rd (46:02). 

    In the Brighton Half-Marathon on Sunday, Niamh Vincent placed seventh in the W40 age-group (1:30:49). She was followed by Phillip Gardner (1:43:43), Andy Strudwick (1:45:46) and Selena Wong (2:01:21). Linda Jones ran the London Half-Marathon in 1:59:23.

    On Saturday morning, Cindy Siu was the second woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 28th overall out of 155 finishers (25:49). Stephen Kennefick was third out of 85 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (21:58). Striders had a total of 105 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Striders had the first two finishers in the Lloyd junior parkrun on Sunday, with Daniel Williams placing first out of 74 finishers (8:33) and Zoe Siu second (9:00).
