• IMPORTANT: Updated guidance from England Athletics, Club Runs Cancelled

As everyone is aware on Thursday 5th November we go into our second national lockdown. Many of you have been asking how this will affect club activities. We’ve been waiting for guidance from England Athletics before making any decisions. Sadly it’s not good news. Today they released the following statement:

From this Thursday [5 November 2020], the UK Government is requiring everyone in England to stay at home, except for specific purposes, and not gather with other people who do not live in the same household, again except for specific purposes.

The impact on athletics and running will include suspension of the following:

    • All indoor club group coaching activity
    • All outdoor club group coaching activity
    • All indoor track and field competitions
    • All outdoor competition (track and field, cross country, road, trail, fell and multiterrain).

As a result, we are sadly having to cancel all club runs until further notice.

However, the UK Government has confirmed that you can exercise with people from your own household OR with one other person in a public outdoor space.

    __________

    What are Striders doing?

Chris will be sharing the weekly speed sessions every Tuesday which we can do solo or in pairs. I know these kept many of us going during the first lockdown.

We can still run in groups of two so please do meet up in pairs for runs.

There will be other challenges & virtual events over the course of the month keep a lookout in the Facebook group.

    __________

    Striders Socials

Sadly we will have to cancel the Striders (not) park run on the 14th November but we currently hope that the Christmas Trek on the 6th December will be able to go ahead as planned.

Keep your eyes peeled for more lockdown social updates.

    __________

Lockdown will affect everyone differently. Please do check-in on each other, support & encourage your club mates. If anyone is really struggling please do reach out to myself, the committee, or one of the welfare officers.

Until we’re running through the streets of Croydon together again.

Stay safe, stay home & keep running.
