Surrey Cross-Country League
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their penultimate Surrey Cross-Country League matches of the season, at Oxshott on Saturday. Their women placed 12th out of 15 clubs in their Division Two match. Consuelo Kennefick was 24th of the 170 finishers, completing the five-mile course in 34:58. Ally Whitlock was 25th (35:02), Cindy Siu 79th (39:34), Stephanie Hunter 91st (41:07) and Debra Bourne 96th (41:57). Their B team were eleventh in their category. Linda Jones was 124th (45:03), Selena Wong 125th (45:04), Ruth Pearson 154th (48:50), Maria Gabriel 158th (49:18) and Emese Ban 161st (51:08).
Striders’ men placed fifth out of ten clubs in their Division Three match. Phil Coales ran well to place eighth of the 197 finishers (27:59), with James Rhodes tenth (28:01), Marc Burrows 36th (29:41) and Nathan Robertshaw 47th (30:20). Krzysztof Klidzia was first in the M60 age-group and 64th overall (31:30), while Steve Corfield was second in the M60 age-group and 70th overall (31:39). Tom Gillespie was 74th (32:02), Liam Redmond 95th (32:53), Kerim Suruliz 101st (33:30) and Erik Schrijnemaekers 102nd (33:33). Their B team placed eighth in their category. Josef Freedman was 123rd (35:03), John O’Mahony 144th (36:40), Kechong Nguyen 148th (36:58), Sam Ban 159th (38:34) and Darren Woods 162nd (38:55).
Also on Saturday, Keith Simpson was the first over-70 to finish the Saturn Marathon, starting and finishing at Staines (5:24:38). Daniel Finch placed first out of 135 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (19:53). Striders had the first female finisher in three different parkruns: Martha Taylor at Albert Park in Melbourne (20:17), Niamh Vincent at South Norwood (22:23), and Becky Laurence at Malling (25:18). Striders had a total of 90 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
