South of England Cross-Country Championships
Striders of Croydon had three competitors in the South of England Cross-Country Championships, at Beckenham Place Park on Saturday. In the men’s race, James Rhodes placed 221st of the 603 finishers, completing the 14-kilometre course in 57:10. Club colleague Stephen Siu was 570th (76:56). In the women’s race, Consuelo Kennefick placed 248th of the 335 finishers, completing the eight-kilometre course in 40:41.
Niamh Vincent was the fifth woman to finish the RunThrough Crystal Palace Half-Marathon on Sunday, placing second in the W40 age-group and 37th overall out of 257 finishers (1:40:49). Lottie Nusca was the sixth woman to finish, placing 44th overall (1:41:53). Club colleague John O’Mahony placed 40th (1:41:34).
On Saturday morning, Ally Whitlock was the first woman to finish the Chasewater parkrun near Cannock, placing ninth overall out of 362 finishers (21:36). Erik Schrijnemaekers was second out of 81 finishers in the Hanworth parkrun in Feltham (20:15). Martha Taylor was the second woman to finish the Burgess parkrun in Camberwell, placing 34th overall out of 815 finishers (19:38). Kara Boaks was the second woman to finish the Whitstable parkrun, placing 16th overall out of 418 finishers (21:26). Becky Laurence was the second woman to finish the Hazelwood parkrun in Sunbury-on-Thames, placing 20th overall out of 132 finishers (25:03). Cindy Siu was the second woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 29th overall out of 172 finishers (25:51). Striders’ fastest time of the day came from Daniel Finch, who was fourth out of 939 finishers in the Bromley parkrun (17:39). Striders had a total of 118 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
Meanwhile, Keith Simpson placed first in the M70 age-group in the Saturn Winter Lucky Dip Marathon, starting and finishing at Staines (5:36:17).
