Epsom & Ewell Mad Mile
Striders of Croydon had the first two finishers, and the first female finisher, at the South Norwood parkrun on Saturday morning. Daniel Finch ran very well to take first place out of 271 finishers in 19 minutes 46, six seconds ahead of club colleague Chris Bourchier. Martha Taylor was the first woman to finish, placing fifth overall (20:39).
Elsewhere, two other Striders placed first in parkruns further afield. Phil Coales placed first out of 275 finishers at the Durlston parkrun in Dorset (20:43), while Tatsuya Okamoto placed first out of 44 finishers at the Momoi Harappa parkrun in Japan (17:43). Marc Burrows placed second out of 188 finishers at the Ecos parkrun in Ballymena (19:13). Consuelo Kennefick was the second woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 23rd overall out of 222 finishers (22:50). Striders had a total of 124 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
On Sunday morning, Zoe Siu was the second female finisher in the Lloyd junior parkrun, placing fourth overall out of 82 finishers (8:18).
On Thursday evening, Striders had six competitors in the Epsom & Ewell one-mile track races at Ewell Court. Josef Freedman ran well to win his heat (5:30.74). Striders’ other runners were Peter Johnson (5:54.43), Darren Woods (6:07.65), Kechong Nguyen (6:18.83), Alex Legge (7:39.14) and Sarah Allport (9:33.24).
