Elmore 7-mile
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in hot conditions in the Elmore 7-mile road race at Chipstead on Saturday, which was the fifth race in this year’s Surrey Road League. Leonie Hondeborg ran well to be the 15th woman to finish, placing 93rd overall out of 198 finishers (53:46). Cindy Siu was the 34th woman to finish, placing 131st overall (59:12). Striders’ men were led by Martin Filer who placed sixth in the M45 age-group and 36th overall (46:04). Nathan Davies was 58th (49:34), Tim Lawlor 74th (51:32), Jason Gallagher 87th (53:00), Craig Smith 103rd (55:08) and Stephen Tyler 197th (1:48:25).
In the Veterans AC five-kilometre road race at Battersea Park on Tuesday evening, Steve Corfield ran well to place second in the M60 age-group, and 18th overall out of 95 finishers (18:12). In the five-kilometre walk at the same venue, Stephen Allport was eighth (36:52) while David Hoben was ninth (39:06).
For the second successive week, Striders had the first two female finishers in the South Norwood parkrun on Saturday morning. Martha Taylor placed seventh overall out of 203 finishers (21:18), while Niamh Vincent placed eleventh (21:33). Tatsuya Okamoto placed first out of 47 finishers in the Momoi Harappa parkrun in Japan (17:43). Becky Laurence was the first woman to finish the Beckton parkrun, placing 12th overall out of 66 finishers (24:09). Nathan Robertshaw was third out of 246 finishers in the Lloyd parkrun (18:56), while Tom Gillespie was third in the South Norwood parkrun (20:22). Striders had a total of 112 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In Monaco on Friday, James Rhodes ran a personal best of 2:51.17 for 1000 metres. On Sunday morning, Zoe Siu ran well to finish third in the Lloyd junior parkrun (08:15).
