Dorking 10-mile road race
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the Dorking 10-mile road race on Sunday, which incorporated the Surrey Championships and was the third race in this year’s Surrey Road League. Their women did well to place seventh in the team event. Niamh Vincent was the 22nd woman to finish, recording a personal best 71:00. Leonie Hondeborg was 49th (78:27), Alex Legge 65th (81:58), Maili Singh 94th (90:33) and Yasmin Anderson 107th (95:39).
Striders’ men placed 17th in their team event. Peter Johnson was 133rd (68:20), Nathan Davies 146th (69:30), Tim Lawlor 147th (69:39), Josef Freedman 206th (73:47), Kechong Nguyen 219th (74:42), David Foster 233rd (75:59), Matthew Bollington 258th (78:20) and Rotimi Oyegunle 319th (84:23).
In the Tracksmith Community Mile races at Stratford on Thursday, Phil Coales ran well to place third in the B race in a Striders’ club record of 4 minutes 35.88. This was more than six seconds faster than the previous club record, set by James Rhodes on the same track in 2022. Sarah Allport ran a personal best 9:31.37.
On Friday, Nick Kyritsis placed 16th out of 71 finishers in the Phoenix Marathon, starting and finishing at Walton-on-Thames. This was his 377th marathon, and his time of 4:34:23, at the age of 70, was a ‘good for age’ qualifying time for the London Marathon.
In the Serpentine 5K at Hyde Park, Steve Corfield placed second in the M60 age-group and 42nd overall out of 241 finishers (18:23). Ellyw Evans was the 23rd woman to finish, placing 111th overall (20:54).
On Saturday morning, Niamh Vincent was the first woman to finish the Ardgillan parkrun in Ireland, placing tenth overall out of 95 finishers (22:09). Striders had a total of 130 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
