Owen Trophy

The concept :

The system is based around your 10K ‘base time’. Your initial ‘base time’ is your fastest 10K time for Striders in the period 01/09/2017 to 18/03/2019.
If you better your 10K ‘base time’ it will immediately be adjusted to reflect this new quicker time (your ‘base time’ can improve from any 10K race, not just Owen Trophy 10Ks).
If you haven’t run a 10K for Striders since 01/09/2017 then you won’t initially have a base time and so you won’t have target times.

Using that ‘base time’ we apply a standard factor to each race to give you a ‘target’ time and a ‘bonus target’ time for each race. (The ‘bonus target’ is simply the ‘target’ multiplied by 0.99 ). These ‘target’ factors are calculated by looking at previous results for Striders in these particular races and comparing these to their previous ‘base times’ : in this way the difficulty of the course is factored in to your target times.

If all this seems a bit confusing then check the examples at the bottom of this page.

Points scoring :
As per usual its your best 6 scores out of the 10 races listed below (NB: only your best marathon and half marathon score – you don’t score for multiples of these events)

a. 20 points for a completed race

b. 1 point for finishing quicker than your personalised ‘target’ time

c. 1 point for finishing quicker than your personalised ‘bonus target’ time

d. 1 point for finishing quicker than your time for the same race last season

e. 1 point for completing a marathon

f. 1 point for bettering your 2017/18 Road Ranking time (10K, 10 miles, half, marathon) or your 7 miles/5K road for Elmore/Wimbledon

See the fixtures below for target and bonus targets for the races.

runner A’s ‘base time’ is 45.00
‘target’ time for Sutton is 45.53 (45.00 * 1.0197)
‘bonus target’ time is 45.26 (45.00 * 1.0095),
For their best half marathon their ‘target’ time would be 1.41.15 (45.00 * 2.25)
